Beautifully written. I can see that this has come from the bottom of your heart. Take a bow sir, for the honest opinion.
Child labour is despicable. Make no mistake about it. But to take only this aspect in a poor economy and ban it is akin to killing a poisonous worm in Amazon rain forest. We have hundreds of ills in this country about which nobody does anything. You have correctly poured vitriol on one of the problems- population control or the lack of it.
Is making a woman walk five kilometers to fetch water is any more cruel than making a ten-year old work? Or making the poor stand five hours in a PDS retail outlet for a meagre three litres of kerosene per month any better than to employ a 12 year old to look after the cows? The poor never look at the problem of more children as more mouths to feed but more hands to work. The few rupees the boy brings in, will keep the fire burning in the house for few more days.
Every child has a right to education but just look at the quality of education the Govt. provides to the poor. Pathetic, is the only word to describe it. The schools keep passing the children till they reach the 10th where despite the diluted standards, a vast majority fail because it is a public exam. Then what? Is it alright for them to start working as cleaners and scavengers and doing umpteen other menial jobs? That's a load of rubbish.
To apply Western standards to a country like India is wrong, terribly wrong.
